In the beginning, the year consisted of 360 days in a solar year. Each day was 24 hours long (today at day is actually 24 hours and some 20 seconds hours long). Originally every month had exactly 30 days, to the second, and the year contained exactly 12 months!. See Fig 1 below.
Then something happened. The earth slowed down. The moon's orbit fell out of whack and all the ancients recognized this fact that their calendar;'s were no longer in sink. As the earth slowed, so did the moon orbit (see Fig 2). Some ancient cultures that followed a lunar year, found out that they needed to add an extra month every three years. "Modern" agrarian empires like Egypt that needed an EXACT calendar, simply added 5-6 days at the end of each year. The calendar was calculated based on the sun cycle, and is one of the first calendars known to mankind and the most accurate in terms of climate conditions and agriculture during the year, where the Egyptian farmer has been relying on it to determine the seasons of agriculture and crop yielding for thousands of years.
When God reinstituted the revised 365 day calendar to Moses in Exodus 12:1-3. "Now the LORD (Jesus) spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2 “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household."
Obviously, any well study of the Bible will bring to light the fact that to GOD, the year is 360 days long.
The fact that the prophets understood a year as 360 days is well attested. God created the sun to mark the seasons and years. He made the moon to mark the days. There are 354.37 days in a lunar year (of 12 moons/months), and 365.24 days in a solar year; together they average 360 days. In fact, many historians, scholars, and scientists, along with a few popular authors, have claimed that ancient civilizations used a 360-day annual calendar. Why is this? The Plain Truth is that when God created the earth, this planet rotated perfectly on a 360 day year, with 12 lunar months of exactly 30 days. God creates in perfection, but when sin enters the realm of the earth, perfection is altered. In this case, the great flood of Noah added water weight to this planet, whereas it slowed down from the perfect 360 day year to an imperfect 365 1/4 day year, thus messing up the calendar for ever more.
The calendar used by Abraham, Moses and Jesus was purely solar. Throughout Scripture we see that all years were said to have only 12 months. The Egyptians were the first people to recognize that the year had changed from 360 days to 365 days. The assumption can be made that the Egyptians noticed this change AFTER the flood and were forced to deal with the discrepancy. What they did was clever, and made their calendar the most accurate one ever devised. They merely counted out 12, 30 day months from the summer solstice. They no longer timed the moon with the month because they saw that the moon no longer took 30 days to travel around the earth (it became 29 days). At the end of the 360th day, they simply did not count the remaining days at all.... They were "no days" as they waited to start the new year with the coming of the summer solstice. This worked perfectly for them. Moses was Egyptian taught and would have been very familiar with this way of counting off the year. When God changed the new year, to the spring (the equinox) Moses understood, or was instructed by God to follow the example of the Egyptians and not count the last five or six days of the year. This would keep the calendar exactly perfect, and God is perfection to the trillionth degree!
The truth about the biblical 360 day year as mentioned by Newton was quoted by Sir Robert Anderson in his book, The Coming Prince, page 68. This was not a new discovery by Sir Isaac Newton in the late 1600's or by Sir Robert Anderson in 1895. It was clearly discussed in detail by the Christian, Julias Africanus in his Chronology within his explanation of the fulfillment of Daniel's Seventy Weeks, written about A.D. 240. http://xwalk.ca/360day.html
The 13th "Jewish" Month is not mentioned in the Bible!
If you search the Bible for any mention of a "13th" month, you will never find it! How can it be then, that most assume that the Jewish calendar, which must have a 13th month every third year is Biblical at all! It is not. In 1 Chronicles 27, we are given the guards for every month of the year (see Fig 3) and it is clear that only 12 months are in the calendar, never a 13th month.
Revelation 11 & 12, we see that 3 1/2 years is 42 months, not 43. It has only 1260 days (42X30), this alone blows away the theory of the Hebrew Calendar in God;'s word.
Contrary to some who claim Ezekiel has a 13th month, research proves this wrong. Check this link for conclusive proof.
There are 12 -- 30 day Months to God's year, with the first month always on The Spring Equionx, about March 21. There are also 5 or 6 NO days each year that are not calculated. That's how 365 fits into 360!
|Date||Duration in mean solar time|
|February 11||24 hours|
|March 26||24 hours − 18.1 seconds|
|May 14||24 hours|
|June 19||24 hours + 13.1 seconds|
|July 25/26||24 hours|
|September 16||24 hours − 21.3 seconds|
|November 2/3||24 hours|
|December 22||24 hours + 29.9 seconds|
These lengths will change slightly in a few years and significantly in thousands of years.
The Chart below shows difference between the solar year and lunar year if we are only speeding up the orbit of the Earth around the sun. Notice that in a perfect 360 day year, the moon's rotation increases to 30 days!
