Most U.S. dairy cows are descended from just 2 bulls

Unlike most dairy cows in America, which are descended from just two bulls, this cow at Pennsylvania State University has a different ancestor: She is the daughter of a bull that lived decades ago, called University of Minnesota Cuthbert. The bull's frozen semen was preserved by the U.S. Agriculture Department.

Dan Charles/NPR

Chad Dechow, a geneticist at Pennsylvania State University who studies dairy cows, is explaining how all of America's cows ended up so similar to each other.

He brings up a website on his computer. "This is the company Select Sires," he says. It's one of just a few companies in the United States that sells semen from bulls for the purpose of artificially inseminating dairy cows.

Dechow chooses the lineup of Holstein bulls. This is the breed that dominates the dairy business. They're the black-and-white animals that give a lot of milk.

Dairy farmers can go to this online catalog and pick a bull, and the company will ship doses of semen to impregnate their cows. "There's one bull — we figure he has well over a quarter-million daughters," Dechow says.

The companies rank their bulls based on how much milk their daughters have produced. Dechow picks one from the top of the list, a bull named Frazzled. "His daughters are predicted to produce 2,150 pounds more milk than daughters of the average bull," he says, reading from the website.   MORE>>>>>

Does this coin found near Jerusalem prove that Samson lived... and that he did fight the lion?

Samson and DelilahSamson and Delilah (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

A tiny seal has been uncovered that could be the first archaeological evidence of Samson, the Biblical slayer of Philistines.

Archaeologists discovered the ancient artifact while excavating the tell of Beit Shemesh in the Judaean Hills near Jerusalem, Israel.

It appears to depict the Old Testament story of Samson, whose might was undone by his lust for the temptress Delilah, and his fight with a lion.

The seal, which measures less than an inch in diameter, shows a large animal with a feline tail attacking a human figure.

The seal was discovered at a level of excavation that dates it to roughly the 11th century BC, when Israelite tribes had moved into the area after Joshua's conquest of Canaan.

It was a time when the Jews were led by ad hoc leaders known as judges, one of whom was Samson.

The location of the find was close to the River Sorek that marked the boundary between the Israelites and their Philistine foes, The Daily Telegraph reported.

The location also indicates that the figure on the seal could represent Samson, according to Israeli archaeologists Professor Shlomo Bunimovitz and Dr Zvi Lederman.

Beit Shemesh is regularly mentioned in the Old Testament, most notably in chapter 6 of the book of Samuel I - the ruler of Israel immediately after Samson - as being the first city encountered by the ark of the covenant on its way back from Philistia after having been captured by the Philistines in battle.

Is America becoming an atheist nation?

USA in ProphecySomewhere Bill Maher is smiling. A new Pew Survey (Oct. 17, 2019) has come out, reporting a decline of Christianity in America and the rise of the "nones." The nones are those who have no religious affiliation.

The report states, "65% of American adults describe themselves as Christians when asked about their religion, down 12 percentage points over the past decade. Meanwhile, the religiously unaffiliated share of the population, consisting of people who describe their religious identity as atheist, agnostic or 'nothing in particular' now stands at 26%, up from 17% in 2009. Both Protestantism and Catholicism are experiencing losses of population share."

Included in the bad news is the report that people are attending church less frequently: "Over the last decade, the share of Americans who say they attend religious services at least once or twice a month dropped by 7 percentage points, while the share who say they attend religious services less often (if at all) has risen by the same degree."

Thousands of witches to cast massive spell on Trump and his supporters

At one minute before the stroke of midnight on Oct. 25, thousands of self-identified witches plan to simultaneously conduct a ritual meant to "bind" President Trump "and all those who abet him."

The practice has taken place monthly since Trump's inauguration, notes Michael Snyder on his End of the American Dream blog, but with Halloween approaching and an impeachment inquiry underway, it's getting renewed media attention.   MORE>>>>

Christian persecution 'at near genocide levels'

The persecution of Christians in parts of the world is at near "genocide" levels, according to a report ordered by Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

The review, led by the Bishop of Truro the Right Reverend Philip Mounstephen, estimated that one in three people suffer from religious persecution.     Christians were the most persecuted religious group, it found.

The Plain Truth- May 2009--- Chinese influence over Congress

This is the story and link we put up in May 2009!   Over 10 years ago, and once again, The Plain Truth has been ahead of the MSM on the dangers the US is facing.

Chinese influence over American leaders:

China's communist government has used its relationships with prominent Americans to further a propaganda effort aimed at influencing U.S. policies and softening economic sanctions, according to recent congressional testimony. Those whose names, words or friendships have been invoked by China to influence the debate over sanctions include former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former President George H.W. Bush, said Anne-Marie Brady, an associate professor of political and social sciences at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Ms. Brady testified before the U.S.-China Economic & Security Review Commission April 30 that it is long-standing Chinese policy to exploit foreigners for global propaganda work. "Historically, foreigners have been extremely useful in producing a wide range of propaganda materials, ranging from books, films and poetry, to public and private lobbying," she said. ... What the Weather Channel and MSM don't admit-Hurricanes have been worse in the past

Don't believe the hype about Climate change, global warming, and the deadliness hurricane garbage that you are assaulted with daily in the media.  Take a look....  Also remember before the 1960's we didn't even have satellites and ways to measure some storms, and we didn't have 10 million people in harm's way building on ocean beaches. Remember that thing about 'building your houses on sand?"  Jesus knew what would happen 2,000 years ago!

The Great Speckled Bird

What a beautiful thought I am thinking
Concerning a great speckled bird
Remember her name is recorded
On the pages of God's Holy Word

All the other birds are flocking 'round her
And she is despised by the squad
But the great speckled bird in the Bible
Is one with the great church of God

All the other churches are against her
They envy her glory and fame
They hate her because she is chosen
And has not denied Jesus' name

Desiring to lower her standard
They watch every move that she makes
They long to find fault with her teachings
But really they find no mistake

She is spreading her wings for a journey
She's going to leave by and by
When the trumpet shall sound in the morning
She'll rise and go up in the sky

In the presence of all her despisers
With a song never uttered before
She will rise and be gone in a moment
Till the great tribulation is o'er

I am proud that my name is on her book
For I want to be one never fearing
The face of my Savior to look

When He cometh descending from heaven
On the cloud that He writes in His Word
I'll be joyfully carried to meet Him
On the wings of that great speckled bird

By Bob Barney

The lyrics of the song was written over 100 years ago, but never are the words more true than today. "The Great Speckled Bird" is a hymn from the Southern United States whose lyrics were written by the Reverend Guy Smith, and Transcribed by singer Charlie Swain, made famous by Roy Acuff and later Johnny Cash.    It is based on Jeremiah 12:9, "Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour." It was recorded in 1936 by Roy Acuff. It was also later recorded by Johnny Cash and Kitty Wells (both in 1959), Pearly Brown (1961), Hank Locklin (1962), Marty Robbins (1966), Lucinda Williams (1978), Bert Southwood (1990), Marion Williams, and Jerry Lee Lewis.

The great speckled bird represents the true Church of God, and the Bible.  The other birds (vs 5-7)  represent other false churches and false religions.  The Plain Truth of Jesus Christ is despised by much of the world, including Christian Churches and other religions like Islam and Judaism.  The world, science and anthropologists "long to find fault with her teachings," and if we are honest with ourselves, everything around us tries to do just that!  Evolution, global warming, modern politically correct laws, and our leaders are always at odds with the Bible - which is the word of God!  Like the song says, "But really they find no mistake". And they don't. Evolution is a lie, so is global warming. So too is the Democrat party - they all stand for lawlessness!  Don't be fooled, lawlessness = DEATH!  1 John 3:4 and Romans 6:23.

"They hate her because she is chosen---And has not denied Jesus' name." Revelation 3:8:  I know your works: behold, I have set before you an open door, and no man can shut it: for you have a little strength, and have kept my word, and have not denied my nameThe Plain Truth is that many today deny Jesus is God. In fact in doing so, they are being antichrists!

The world hates us because they hated Jesus first.  If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[a] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’" (John 15:18-25)

Tribulation:  Unlike in the song, the Church is NOT raptured before Christ's return, BUT DURING HIS RETURN--- at that same moment in time, but for the most part, the song is a great example of the true message of the Bible, that is timeless and as true today concerning the nature of mankind as it was when it was first written.

"She is spreading her wings for a journey - She's going to leave by and by -When the trumpet shall sound in the morning - She'll rise and go up in the sky."  Yes, the Bible promises that the Church will go to meet Jesus, When He returns (not before) and we will reign with Christ on this earth for 1,000 years!  We do not go to heaven when we die, we sleep in a grave.  But when Jesus comes again, "When He cometh descending from heaven, On the cloud that He writes in His Word,
I'll be joyfully carried to meet Him, On the wings of that great speckled bird."  This signifies when we are brought back to spiritual life and meet with Christ is the clouds at His coming (Read 1 Corinthians 15- the "resurrection" chapter).

Don't be fooled by the teachings of this world today.  Trust in God, and God's Bible.  Don't put your trust in man, be a part of the great speckled bird!

Did Jesus Christ Really Exist?

Was Jesus of Nazareth a real person? Did He really exist? Are the stories written about Him in the Bible true? These are important questions, and it’s crucial that you know the answers!

Some argue that Jesus couldn’t have existed because there are no first-century historical records that mention Him. Of course, there are contemporary biographies written about Him—four of them in fact, by different authors. They’re called the Gospels, and they’re found in the Bible.

But that’s not good enough for those determined not to believe in Jesus Christ. They insist on more. They demand written records from contemporary first-century historians who were not followers of Jesus.

Historians are well aware of a few surviving non-Christian Roman works from early in the second century that mention Jesus Christ and Christianity.

But in so doing they’re requiring a standard few historical figures from the ancient world could possibly meet. After all, very few surviving histories survive from the first century, and basically the only sizeable and largely complete Roman written works from this time are a manual on agriculture, a comedy from a friend of one of the emperors and a few other miscellaneous works—none of which we would expect to include any mention of Christianity or Jesus Christ.

Book of Nehemiah Found Among the Scrolls

Scroll scholars find first fragment of Nehemiah

nehemiah

A gaunt Nehemiah guards the portal on the west facade of the Church of St. Lazare, in Avallon, central France. In a recent study, scroll scholars Torleif Elgvin and Esther Eshel identified the first known copy of the Book of Nehemiah among the Dead Sea Scrolls. Photo: Foto Marburg/Art Resource, NY.

Anyone familiar with the Dead Sea Scrolls can tell you that portions of nearly every book in the Hebrew Bible are represented in these ancient texts discovered in caves near the Dead Sea.

The only exceptions were the Book of Esther and the Book of Nehemiah;* scholars assumed the latter had been written on the same scroll as the Book of Ezra (as was common) but simply hadn’t survived—until now. In a recent blog post,** Norwegian scroll scholar Torleif Elgvin of Evangelical Lutheran University College in Oslo, Norway, announced that he and colleague Esther Eshel of Bar-Ilan University will be publishing a collection of more than two dozen previously unknown scroll fragments, including the first known fragment of Nehemiah.

The scrolls in the new book come from Qumran Cave 4, Bar-Kokhba caves and Wadi ed-Daliyeh. The publication, Gleanings from the Caves (forthcoming from T&T Clark) will feature enhanced photographs of the scrolls by Bruce Zuckerman and his team,*** as well as “artifacts from the Judean Desert such as a scroll jar, a palm fiber pen, a bronze altar and inkwell.”

Satanic Temple head: 'More than 50% of our membership is LGBTQ'

Honestly, does this surprise anyone?

1“It would be a conservative estimate to say that more than 50 percent of our membership is LGBTQ,” the head of the Satanic Temple said in a recent interview.

Lucien Greaves, who runs the U.S. Satanic Temple, told U.K.-based Attitude magazine, “From the start, when one of our early actions was the Pink Mass, a lot of LGBTQ people were looking for another community that didn’t see them as defined by their sexual orientation.”

It appears Greaves was referring to a ritual he performed at the grave of the mother of the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, a fringe, vehemently anti-Catholic group condemned by pro-family activists for, among other things, reducing people to the sum of their sexual attractions (just as the LGBT lobby does). The “black mass,” meanwhile, is a blasphemous mockery of the Catholic Mass that includes the desecration of a consecreated host, which the Catholic Church teaches is the literal body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ.  MORE

The grapes of Sodom & the law of cumulative sin

By Scott Lively

USA in prophecyI was very moved by a recent opinion piece by Erick Erickson on the atoning sacrifice of Union soldiers in the Civil War for the sin of slavery.

His purpose was to rebuke the New York Times for its pursuit of reparations for the descendants of slaves, noting that the debt had been fully paid in blood. He reminded us that this was a consensus of our nation at the time, invoking President Lincoln's second inaugural address:

"The Almighty has His own purposes. 'Woe unto the world because of offenses; for it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh.' If we shall suppose that American slavery is one of those offenses … if God wills … every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword."

WHY A SCIENTIST BELIEVES IN GOD

“While the admission of a design for the universe ultimately raises the question of a Designer (a subject outside of science), the scientific method does not allow us to exclude data which lead to the conclusion that the universe, life and man are based on design. To be forced to believe only one conclusion – that everything in the universe happened by chance – would violate the very objectivity of science itself.

Philly man cleared of murder after 27 years in prison

Willie Veasy, 54, stepped out of a Philadelphia courthouse Wednesday a free man after serving 27 years behind bars for a murder he did not commit. A judge ruled he was innocent in the 1992 shooting death of John Lewis and threw out his sentence of life without parole. Prosecutors believe that Veasy was coerced into signing a confession by two detectives who had a 'pattern and practice' of forcing false confessions. Those detectives have retired and are being investigated. Veasy's release made it the tenth exoneration since District Attorney Larry Krasner (inset) took office last year.

The Snakefish invades America

Fish that can live on LAND and eats mammals is found in a Georgia pond for the first time

An invasive fish named the Northern snakehead has been found for the first time in a pond in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The Northern snakehead (pictured) is native to the Yangtze River basin in China, but has been found in 14 U.S. states. The fish species can grow 3-feet long and survive for up to four days out of water. Officials are concerned the predatory species will  overtake native aquatic wildlife species, since it is known to eat other fish, frogs, small reptiles, crustaceans, birds and some mammals. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is telling people who encounter the fish to 'kill it immediately'.

Vatican Refutes Pope’s Denial of Christ’s Divinity

Foreword by Bob Barney:  The Plain Truth has informed our readers for years that in the end time, a revised Holy Roman Empire will again be born in Europe with the Catholic Church at the helm, DENYING the divinity of Christ, not false Christianity, as they are today- but NO CHRISTIANITY!.... Here is another story as an example....

ROME — The Vatican issued a statement Wednesday refuting claims Pope Francis had denied the divinity of Jesus Christ, saying the words attributed to the pontiff were a “free interpretation” of what he actually said.

On Wednesday, journalist Eugenio Scalfari published an essay in the Italian daily La Repubblica declaring, among other things, that the pope told him that he believes that Jesus of Nazareth was an exceptional man, but not God incarnate.

“As has already been stated on other occasions, the words that Dr. Eugenio Scalfari attributes in quotation marks to the Holy Father during talks with him cannot be considered a faithful account of what was actually said, but represent rather a personal and free interpretation of what he heard, as is quite evident from what was written today about the divinity of Jesus Christ,” reads the statement by papal spokesman Matteo Bruni.  MORE

How much physical coal is required to produce enough electricity to power the average electric vehicle

Michael Barnard
Michael Barnard, Low-carbon Innovation Strategist
Originally Answered: How much physical coal is required to produce enough electricity to power the average electric vehicle (tesla, volt, etc) for 300 miles?

First off, the standard statement: no grid is 100% coal generation and pretty much all new demand these days reduces the percentage of coal generation on a grid.

That said, let's break it down:

  • A 2012 Tesla Model S with the 85 KWH battery pack has an EPA rated range of 265 miles. Tesla Model S
  • Very little math tells us that 300 miles would require about 96 KWH.
  • "Since coal has a heat value of 20,000 kJ/kg, for producing one KWH we require (10765 / 20000) 0.538 kg of coal. " How to Calculate the Coal Quantity Used in a Power Plant
  • 96 KWH would require, once again through simple math, just under 52 KG of coal or about 114 pounds of coal.
  • Fortuitously, coal often comes in 50 kg sacks, allowing us to find a picture of someone carrying one for scale.

Mokete Phoka, 20-year-old, delivers a 50kg bag of coal in Soweto 17...

  • For comparison, gasoline weighs 2.83 kg or 6.25 lbs per US gallon, so 20 gallons would weigh about 57 kg or 125 pounds, slightly more than the coal. Of course, that's assuming a car that gets 15 miles per gallon which kind of sucks. Volume to Weight conversion Here's a guy filling up a bunch of five gallon cans with gas in preparation for a hurricane for comparison.

Nature magazine has retracted a study on so-called "global warming" that claimed humans were creating warming in the oceans.

"Climatology is littered with examples of bad statistics, going back to the infamous Hockey Stick graph and beyond," explained Benny Peiser of the Global Warming Policy Forum. "Peer review is failing and it is falling to amateurs to find the errors. Scientists in the field should be embarrassed."
