Passover begins at Sundown Tonight

By Bob Barney- The Plain Truth

Almost nobody knows the truth about God's Calendar, the dates of Passover, or even when the day begins.  This ignorance is based on the fact that almost all Sabbath Keeping Churches (Jewish or Christians) accept the modern Jewish Calendar, which is based on the phases of the moon, rather than the Bible based calendar based solely on the Sun!  In a nutshell, the real Calendar given to Moses was SOLAR based on the equinox. Moses was raised as an Egyptian, who also followed the SOLAR and not a Lunar-Solar Year that pagan follows.  Egypt had long realized that the ancient lunar year was wrong. The lunar year is only 354 day long. A full 11 days short of the solar year.  If you are nomadic shepherds, this fact isn't as important, as it is to farmers who must plant their crops on precise dates! The Hebrew Calendar given to Moses by God was the same as the Egyptian, but starting with a different month. The year started on the spring equinox (March 20-21) instead of the summer solstice (The Egyptian new year about June 21). The Bible shows beyond any shadow of a doubt that God's calendar only has 12--- 30-day months (that's only 360 days, the true year BEFORE the Flood of Noah, when by the way, the moon took a full 30 days to circle the earth instead of the 29 days now.  There was a time when the solar and lunar calendar matched - BEFORE THE FLOOD!) and that 5 1/4 days of each year are simply NOT COUNTED! This is how the Egyptians did it too! They had 12--- 30-day months and 5 to 6 extra non-counted days each year. The new year was the only thing "fixed". In Moses' calendar that "fix date" is the spring equinox to make sure Passover always fell on the same solar day! Proof of a 12 month 30 day month year? Revelation says that 1260 days ARE 3-1/2 years OR 42 months! Do the math! It is PLAIN and simple. The Bible answers all of it's own mysteries. Proof that Jesus did not follow the Jewish Calendar? His Passover was 1 Day BEFORE the Jewish Passover! Nobody ever notices that fact.....

So Why Does Passover Fall at Sundown, if the day begins at sunrise?   The answer is simple.  We follow a day that starts at midnight, right?  Then why does Christmas begin on the evening of December 24?  And Why doesn't actual Christmas day begin at midnight, but rather the following morning?   For the same reason, Passover begins at the beginning of the nighttime portion of of the 14th Day of Nissan.  The 15th Day begins the next morning, when Passover Eve ends....(Exodus 12:8-10).   The noted CATHOLIC turned Adventist Scholar realized this same truth. Samuele Bacchiocchi, Ph. D., Andrews University, wrote:

"A second type of evidence supporting the sunrise reckoning seems implied also in the Passover legislation of Exodus 12. The law prescribes that the Paschal lamb must be slaughtered on the "fourteenth day of this month ... in the evening" (v. 6) and must be eaten "that night" (v. 8) with "unleavened bread and bitter herbs" (v. 8), leaving none of it "until the morning" (v. 10). Later in the same chapter the night during which the Passover lamb was eaten with unleavened bread is explicitly designated as "the fourteenth day of the month" (v. 18).

SabbathRessurection01"What this means is that in Exodus 12 both the slaying of the Passover lamb, which took place "between the two evenings" (Ex 12:6— that is to say, as Josephus explains, between three and five o'clock in the afternoon),18 and the eating of the lamb with unleavened bread, which took place on the following night, are placed on the same fourteenth day of the month.

"This time reference cannot be harmonized with the sunset reckoning, according to which the night following the sacrifice of the Passover was not the 14th but the 15th day of Nisan. In fact, in several passages which reflect the sunset reckoning, the beginning of the feast of unleavened bread is explicitly placed "on the fifteenth day" (Lev 23:5; Num 28:16).

"According to the sunrise reckoning, however, both the slaying of the lamb and the eating of it with unleavened bread would take place on the 14th day, because the night following the slaying of the lamb would still be the 14th day until sunrise. This method, then, seems to be implied in Exodus 12, because, speaking of "the fourteenth day of the month" it explicitly says: "And you shall observe the feast of unleavened bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt" (v.17; cf. vv. 18, 42, 51).

"Jacob Z. Lauterbach rightly observes that "if they came out at night, that is the night following the fourteenth day, and it is said on the very same day, that is on the fourteenth day, they were brought out, it clearly indicates that the night following the fourteenth day is still part of that day."19

"The foregoing considerations suggest that in Exodus 12 the sunrise reckoning is used, since the events of the night following the slaying of the Passover Lamb, namely, the eating of the lamb with unleavened bread and the departure from Egypt, are both placed on the same 14th day.

"The sunrise reckoning of the Passover found in Exodus 12 seems reflected also in Mark 14:12 (cf. Matt 26:16) where the slaying of the Passover lamb and the feast of Unleavened Bread are both placed on the same day: "On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb" (v. 12). This statement suggests a sunrise reckoning, according to which, as Jack Finegan explains, "the day when the Passover lamb was slain and the day when the unleavened bread was eaten were indeed the same day, as Mark 14:12 states."20"

Passover-2Enough of the boring proof.  GOD IS PERFECT, His Laws are Perfect. His creation is perfect, and HIS CALENDAR is perfect!   It is man that is imperfect!  His laws, religion, calendars and ways are always imperfect.  When you see perfection you see the hand of God Almighty. When you see imperfection, you see the handy work of man!

Happy Passover
