It has been 99 years since Theodore Roosevelt’s death, yet he still captures Americans’ imaginations as much as any public figure from that era. What is often lost in our memory of Roosevelt is that he was not only a cowboy, a soldier, and a statesman, but also an acclaimed historian. Indeed, his historical scholarship (some of which remains the standard work in its field) is central to his legacy as a statesman.
Roosevelt was only 23 in 1882, when he published his first work of history, The Naval War of 1812. Although the book was well received in its time (every ship in the Navy was required to keep at least one copy on board), it is far more valuable today as a manifesto for American naval power and a clarion call for the modernization of what Roosevelt saw as a woefully ill-equipped fleet.
Roosevelt credits the young United States Navy with achieving several important victories against the British at sea, but this happened despite and not because of the actions of the American politicians who set military policy in the years before the war. During the Quasi-War fought between the United States and France in the late 1790s, President John Adams had ordered the construction of six frigates and created the Department of the Navy to oversee their construction. However, under the succeeding administrations of Jefferson and Madison, those ships fell into disrepair, and naval construction lost the importance it had once had in Washington. One can read the particular indignation Roosevelt has for Jefferson and Madison in the opening chapters of The Naval War of 1812, as he castigates their strategy for prioritizing small gunboats designed for coastal defense over larger frigates, and how this left the United States vulnerable to the much larger and more dangerous Royal Navy. While Roosevelt admires the quality of America’s sailors a great deal, he repeats vigorously that they were dealt a bad hand by inattentive politicians. MORE
Terrifying simulation reveals the potential impact of a blast in unprecedented detail

In the dystopian-like version of The Sims, researchers simulated a nuke exploding in Washington DC (pictured). An entire city block was obliterated instantly and buildings blasted for a mile in almost every direction
The simulation was designed to give emergency planners an idea of what chaos would be caused from gridlock, power outages and destroyed communications.
Computer scientists from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University even created individual personalities for each resident.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump issued an order Thursday keeping some of the most sensitive records from the Kennedy assassination files sealed for another 3-1/2 years, as the National Archives released a final batch under a law meant to force most of the records into the light by last fall.
In 1992, Congress set a 25-year deadline for releasing remaining documents stemming from John F. Kennedy’s murder in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.
When the deadline arrived — Oct. 26 last year — Trump gave federal agencies a six-month extension to plead the case for keeping selected records sealed, if they could assert a vital national security interest. The FBI and CIA in particular had pressed for more time.
Some 15,884 records that have now been partially released, some with heavy redactions, will be subject to yet more review over the next three years under Trump’s order.

Expert explains Sir Isaac Newton's 'end of the world' prediction
The godfather of physics wrote, in his findings from 1704, the world is set to end on 2060 – exactly 1,260 years after the foundation of the Holy Roman Empire.
The famous scientist reached his apocalyptic conclusion by analysing the Bible’s Book of Daniel according to his note, but how he reached the conclusion exactly is still a mystery more than 300 years later.
His work on the matter, which was kept in a trunk in the house of the Earl of Portsmouth for 250 years, read: "It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner.
“This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be, but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, and by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail.”

Neighbors of the suspected Golden State Killer say he once threatened to 'deliver a load of death' after he became angry over a barking dog - as those who lived near him painted a picture of a retiree who was 'creepy and odd'. Former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, was arrested at his home in Citrus Heights, California on Tuesday night after DNA linked him to crimes attributed to the Golden State Killer from the 1970s and 80s. The Golden State Killer, also known as the East Area Rapist, is suspected of at least 12 murders and 50 rapes across parts of the state 40 years ago. Residents of the quiet, middle-class street where DeAngelo had been living for years said even though their neighbor was known for his temper tantrums, they were shocked to learn he was suspected of being a serial killer. They said DeAngelo - a Vietnam War veteran, former police officer and grandfather - would mostly keep to himself but would often launch into

Fox News host Sean Hannity is responding to news reports that he has links to shell companies that have spent $90 million purchasing houses across the U.S., and he says he’s under “attack” for investing in struggling communities.
As WND reported, Hannity was named as a client of President Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, last week. Hannity said his legal discussions with Cohen were focused on the issue of real estate.
“I’ve said many time on my radio show: I hate the stock market,” Hannity said on television. “Michael knows real estate.”
On Sunday, the London Guardian reported that it had reviewed thousands of pages of public records concerning Hannity’s investments.
“The records link Hannity to a group of shell companies that spent at least $90m on more than 870 homes in seven states over the past decade,” the Guardian reported. “The properties range from luxurious mansions to rentals for low-income families. Hannity is the hidden owner behind some of the shell companies and his attorney did not dispute that he owns all of them.
“Dozens of the properties were bought at a discount in 2013, after banks foreclosed on their previous owners for defaulting on mortgages. Before and after then, Hannity sharply criticized Barack Obama for the U.S. foreclosure rate.”
FORWARD BY BOB BARNEY: Actually, the United States is no longer a Super Power, as most believe. Yes, we can fight limited engagements with moronic Middle Ages Muslims, but we could never sustain a true war with a true world power like China, Russia, or the emerging world super power of Europe, yet to come. We are more like the Roman Empire in AD 500, then we are like Americas was in 1945. Look at this link: Shipyards and Suppliers for U. S. Maritime Commission During World War II for the shock of your life!. If we lost an aircraft carrier today, it would take 5 years to build another. In World War 2, we lost 5 in a year and had that many built in a year! In World War 2, we had our own steel, our own cars, our own energy, our own factories, our own materials. We did not depend on China for much. We can not fight a true world war. Our people are too soft to suffer the wounds of war, and our press has sold us out to communist influence. Traitors (we call the the media, and our global elite class) has sold America into slavery, and the next war will bring this horrible truth top light. Few have any knowledge of what happened on the beaches of Anzio, Italy in 1944. By all accounts the the battle at Anzio was one of the longest protracted battles of the war with over 25,000 battle casualties (killed, wounded, missing, or taken prisoner) on each side of the conflict. That's in a few days in history. Could Americas loose 500,000 today? the Bible actually mentions the fate of the USA and it is not pretty. Long before the return of Christ, the United States, France, Britain, Denmark and the rest of "lost Israel" will have been destroyed, and our peoples in captivity under control of the BEAST GOVERNMENT of Revelation (Rome controlled EUROPE). It's coming, be prepared ----make friends with GOD!
Now today's story by Pat Buchanan
Before President Trump trashes the Iran nuclear deal, he might consider: If he could negotiate an identical deal with Kim Jong Un, it would astonish the world and win him the Nobel Peace Prize.
For Iran has no nuclear bomb or ICBM and has never tested either. It has never enriched uranium to bomb grade. It has shipped 98 percent of its uranium out of the country. It has cameras inside and inspectors crawling all over its nuclear facilities.
And North Korea? It has atom bombs and has tested an H-bomb. It has intermediate-range ballistic missiles that can hit Guam and an ICBM that, fully operational, could hit the West Coast. It has shorter-range missiles that could put nukes on South Korea and Japan.
SHOCKING COVERUP! American need to understand that the liberal are not just attacking the second amendment, but in fact they want to see all of the Bill of Rights done away with... DON'T BE FOOLED!
Every year, Americans use guns to defend themselves more than 2 million times, according to an unpublished study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that focused on data gathered in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
The findings show that use of guns for self-defense happens more frequently than criminal use of firearms.
During his Monday broadcast, talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh said “it’s typical” that the CDC didn’t go public with the eye-opening findings.
“The CDC figures this does not further the leftist agenda,” Limbaugh said, “so they keep it secret, but it has been uncovered.”
Since the 1990s, Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck and partner Marc Gertz have claimed as many as 2.2 million Americans use firearms to defend themselves every year. While critics have claimed Kleck’s estimates were too high, he has frequently stated that they provide no scientific evidence to counter his findings.
Now it’s revealed that the unpublished CDC study in the 1990s found 2.46 million defensive gun uses, or DGUs, per year.

Much, if not most, of what America’s “mainstream media” report today as news is either misleading or flat-out false. Yet, ironically, our nation’s elite journalists are up in arms over an apparently new threat they call “fake news.”
And what is “fake news”? That turns out to be a more profound and revealing question than you might think.
A journalist’s job, I have long said, is to be a professional truth-teller, but that raises the ultimate question: As Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?”
Traditionally minded Americans, conservatives, evangelical Christians and countless others see truth one way. But those on “the left” – code for a worldview of churning rebellion against the Judeo-Christian, capitalist, Constitution-honoring ways of previous generations of Americans – have their own very different notions of truth.
Of course, Americans have the cherished constitutional right to believe whatever “truth” they want, however absurd it might be. But there is a big price to pay, both as individuals and as a nation, for embracing lies as truth.

A senior correspondent for German state media broadcast ZDF heutestunned his European audience during a report from on the ground in Syria when he gave a straightforward and honest account of his findings while investigating what happened in Douma. The veteran reporter, Uli Gack, interviewed multiple eyewitnesses of the April 7 alleged chemical attack and concluded of the testimonials, “the Douma chemical attack is most likely staged, a great many people here seem very convinced.”
It appears that all local Syrians encountered by the German public broadcast reporter were immediately dismissive of the widespread allegation that the Syrian government gassed civilians, which the US, UK, France, and Israel used a pretext for launching missile strikes on Damascus.
ZDF heute: The world continues to puzzle over whether the banned chemical weapons were used in Douma. ZDF correspondent Uli Gack is in Syria for us: “you were in a large refugee camp today and talked to a lot of people – what did you hear about the attack there?” Gack responded, “the Douma chemical attack is most likely staged, a great many people here seem very convinced.”

An unknown and deadly new illness dubbed Disease X has been added to the list of potential global epidemics that could kill millions.
Each year scientists with the World Health Organisation (WHO) create a list of the most likely diseases to break out into a worldwide pandemic.
This year, among the familiar Ebola, SARS, and Zika viruses is the new name of Disease X.
And unlike the other pathogens, it is not known what causes Disease X or how doctors could try to treat it.
Researchers said that they added Disease X to the threat list to recognise the fact that the next deadly pandemic could be started by an illness that has not caused any problems before.
As a former active duty Marine Corps officer, I’ve had the privilege of serving alongside quite a few military chaplains. For better or worse, popular culture has created a somewhat stereotypical portrayal of the military chaplain—many readers may recall the fictional character Father Francis Mulcahy from the television show M*A*S*H. In my experience, chaplains are some of the most dedicated and professional service members in our armed forces.
As an attorney focused on the area of religious liberty, I can say without exception that taking adverse action against a chaplain because he cannot act contrary to his sincerely held religious beliefs not only violates federal law, it prevents a chaplain from completing his mission.

Testosterone could be good for more than men's sexual health and strong muscles and bones.
A new study has found those with low levels of the hormone could be more likely to suffer from chronic illness.
Even the under-40s are at higher risk of obesity-related conditions like diabetes and heart disease thanks to modern sedentary lifestyles, and low testosterone means they are more likely to have more than one at once, according to the research.
One researcher warned that all men should be worried about falling testosterone levels - which could cause 'a silent decline in overall health' - even if their level of the hormone is not low enough to have been diagnosed by a doctor.
Herwig Czech, a historian of medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, made the discovery after looking at Asperger's Nazi-era publications along with documents from Austrian archives. The study points to instances where Asperger referred profoundly disabled children to the Am Spiegelgrund clinic, which participated in the Third Reich's child euthanasia program. The program served the Nazi goal of eugenically engineering a genetically ‘pure’ society through ‘racial hygiene’ and the elimination of lives deemed a ‘burden’ and ‘not worthy of life’.
Jerusalem (AFP) - Israel celebrated 70 years since the country's foundation on Wednesday, lauding its improbable economic success and military prowess, but facing a range of political and security challenges.

President Trump (pictured at Mar A Lago having dinner with Melania and the Japanese Prime Minister and his wife) says the United States has engaged in 'extremely high level' talks with North Korea and a summit with the country's reclusive dictator Kim Jong-un (bottom right) is still on track to take place in the next few weeks. Unless negotiations go offer the rails, Trump said the meeting will take place in late May or early June in one of five locations he revealed to be under consideration. 'We have had direct talks at very high levels, extremely high levels, with North Korea. I really believe there’s a lot of good will,' the U.S. president said. 'We’ll see what happens, as I always say. Because ultimately it’s the end result that counts.' Trump commented on the scheduled talks with North Korea today as he hosted the Japanese prime minister at Mar-a-Lago for a two-day summit. Trump said Japan and the U.S. are 'locked and we are very unified' when it comes to North Korea. Meanwhile it has emerged Mike Pompeo (bottom left), secretly traveled to North Korea for secret talks with Kim over Easter, according to The Washington Post.

She was rushed to hospital immediately after the flight from New York to Dallas made an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport at 11.27am, but authorities confirmed she later died. Annunciation Catholic School, where her two children attend school, identified Riordan as the victim on Tuesday afternoon. Kaya Jones, the Defiant ex-Pussycat Doll who called the pop group a 'prostitution ring,' has detailed the sex abuse she said she went through while she was still a member of the band.
Jones, who left the Dolls after three years in 2005, told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview she and other members of the scantily clad all-girl group were regularly abused by music industry executives.
It wasn't sex for money per se, but sexual favors were expected of the Dolls.
And she says she is convinced more members of the band and its sister acts will come forward to back her explosive claims.
'As just one example, a record executive asked me to get into his car and I accepted. We were in Las Vegas and we were all racing to get to the airport to take us back to LA after the show,' Jones said..
'It was just a 10-minute ride. I remember getting in the back seat of the limo with him and within seconds he jumped on me. I literally had to fight him off all the way to the airport.'
Washington and the US media seem to have no doubts about the Syrian government’s complicity in the Douma incident despite the fact that those who want America to stay in Syria have far more solid motives, Ron Paul told RT.
The assertion by White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders that Washington is “confident” that Syrian President Bashar Assad is culpable for the alleged chemical attack on the Damascus suburb of Douma does not stand up to scrutiny, Ron Paul, former congressman and founder of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, told RT.
“I don’t know what they are confident about. They are confident in telling lies and hope people will believe it,” he said.
Mainstream American media don’t seem to need facts to back the White House’s claims, either. “Most of the time when a crime is committed in this country, the stations, when they are not sure, they carefully say: ‘this is allegedly’ – but they never do this under these circumstances and they have zero bits of information,” Paul pointed out.
While there are few questions in the US media over who is to blame for the alleged incident, the former congressman argues that Assad is the last person to suspect. “I think that least likely it would be Assad,”he said, noting that the same goes for Moscow.
“I cannot see any reason why Assad would do this, there’s no reason for Russians to have done that.” Unlike Russia and Syria, the forces who want to see the US staying in Syria have a clear motive, Paul said.
The Plain Truth has called for this for ten years. We need to have 75-100 states. This would weaken the big cities control over the Senate, giving back that body of Congress to the majority of Americans!
A multi-millionaire who believes California should be separated into six separate states says he has gathered enough signatures to place it on the ballot in two years.
Venture capitalist Tim Draper, 55, says the Golden State is too large to govern efficiently, and that people living there would be better served by a more localised government.
The technology investor has proposed splitting the state into six: San Diego and Orange County would become South California, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara would make up West California, the Sacramento area would be known as North California, and Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton would make up Central California.
