S510 - Illegal To Grow, Share,Trade, Sell Homegrown Food, Penalty is Jail

Weston Price.Org

We've sent out several alerts about the food safety bills in Congress, and are continuing to monitor the situation with S. 510, the Senate's version of the bill.  As written, this bill would impose extremely burdensome and unnecessary requirements on the thousands of small farmers and food processors who are producing safe, nutrient-dense foods for their local communities.  It's critical that the bill be amended or stopped!

The bill's progress has been slowed by controversial proposed amendments.  The first controversy is over Senator Tester's (D-MT) proposed amendment that would exempt small-scale processors and direct-marketing farmers from the most onerous requirements.  Senator Hagan (D-NC) is co-sponsoring the amendments, which are critical to the continued vitality of the local foods movement.  Over 150 organizations have signed a letter of support for these amendments, posted at http://farmandranchfreedom.org/sff/Amend-S510-May-25.pdf

Another major source of controversy is Senator Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) proposal to ban Bisphenol A (BPA) from baby bottles and other food and drink containers.  Studies have shown that BPA can migrate from can linings into food, disrupting the endocrine system with many potential health consequences.  Several industrial food organizations have threatened to withdraw their support for S. 510 if the BPA amendment is included.  There's also controversy over a tracing provision by Senator Brown (D-OH).

All of these developments have slowed the bill down and pose barriers to its passage.  The Senate may vote on the bill this month, but it's not certain.  We must use this time to build more support for the Tester-Hagan amendments!

TAKE ACTION

Here are three actions you can take to protect local foods and farms:

1)  Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.  Keep it short (150 words or less).  Here are a few talking points:

A)  One size does not fit all.  All of the well-publicized incidents of contamination in recent years occurred in industrialized food supply chains that span national and even international boundaries.   Imposing an industrial-style regulatory framework on local farmers and food producers is unnecessary, unfair, and counterproductive.

B)  Local and state governments have well-established programs to protect public health.  In most areas of the country they are already working with small producers to develop practical guidelines that are appropriately scaled to the level of risk in a direct-to-consumer transaction. Local regulation is more than enough for local foods.

C)  Explain briefly how the proposed law would impact your farm, your farmers market or your cooperative. Make it personal to you and your community!

D) Conclude by calling for your Senators to support the Tester-Hagan amendments.  It helps to mentioned their names (ex: "I urge Senators Cornyn and Hutchison to co-sponsor these important amendments."), to catch their staff's attention.

2)  Get your local newspaper to publish an editorial in support of the Tester-Hagan amendments.  Here are some strategies that can help:

A)  Approach the editorial page editor or editorial board and ask for a meeting to discuss concerns about how the Federal Food Safety Bill will impact small local food businesses and farmers market vendors. If an in-person meeting won't work, then set up a phone call and email them materials ahead of time.

B)  Come prepared with materials, including the sign on letter and other talking points.  Additional resources are posted at http://farmandranchfreedom.org/food_safety_bills_09

3)  Contact your U.S. Senators (even if you have called before), and ask to speak with the staff person who handles food safety.  Ask for them to co-sponsor the Tester-Hagan amendment to S. 510.  Please circle back to let us know what the response is.

Thank you for all your hard work on this!

The End of Times: Do Scientists and Fundamentalists Concur?

Clay Farris Naff
Huffington Post

Are We in the Last Days (Prelim 1985)01 You might think that scientists and Evangelicals have nothing in common. But you'd be wrong. Large numbers of both agree on one thing: the end is near.

A few years back, Sir Martin Rees, Britain's Royal Astronomer, published a book titled Our Final Century, in which he put the odds of human survival through this century at no better than 50-50. Now, biologist Frank Fenner, who played a key role in ending the scourge of smallpox, says the end is certain.

Surveying the carnage humanity has inflicted on the ecosphere, the 95-year-old Australian scientist says nothing can change our fate now. "It's an irreversible situation," he's quoted as telling the press. "I think it's too late."

Many of the best-informed scientists agree that we have left it too late to prevent anthropogenic climate change from bringing on a global catastrophe. Whether this results in actual extinction or merely the ruin of civilization is a matter they are still debating.

Legal attack dog sicked on websites accused of violating R-J copyrights

When it comes to fighting copyright theft in the news industry — the piracy of stories, editorials, columns, photos and videos — there are watchdogs and there are attack dogs.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal and its copyright enforcement partner, a Las Vegas startup called Righthaven LLC, are squarely in the attack-dog category.

In a strategic campaign that is attracting growing interest nationwide in legal and media circles, Righthaven — without warning — has sued at least 86 website owners in federal court in Las Vegas since March for copyright infringement.  read the rest

Disaster that never was: Why claims that BP created history's worst oil spill may be the most cynical spin campaign ever

The warm, white sand stretches for miles as clean and flat as a freshly laundered bed sheet.

The turquoise sea is so clear that I can see silvery fish playing around my toes as I take a cooling paddle.

If there is any more pristine resort in which to spend a summer holiday than Pensacola Beach, on the Gulf Coast of Florida, I would like to find it.

And yet, at a time of year when usually there is barely room to unfold a deckchair, the shore is eerily deserted.

Secret Service: Chelsea Clinton Was Best First Child

Of all the offspring of presidents in recent memory, Chelsea Clinton was the best first child, according to Secret Service agents.

“In my career, Chelsea Clinton did it the best,” says an agent familiar with both her detail and the Bush twins’ details. “Treated the detail right, told them what was going on, never gave problems that I knew of.”

Agents describe what the first families have been like in my book “In the President’s Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect,” out this week in paperback with a new chapter on the Salahis' intrusion at President Obama’s state dinner.

Dog chews off owner's toe -- and may have saved his life

Katy Batdorff | The Grand Rapids Press

Jerry and Rosie Douthette play with their terrier, Kiko, at their home in Rockford, Mich., on Sunday.

Melissa Dahl writes: We've done stories before on dogs sniffing out diseases their owners didn't even know they had. Now a little terrier named Kiko has one-upped all of them: He went ahead and performed surgery. Kind of.

According to a bizarre story reported in The Grand Rapids Press, Kiko smelled an infection in his owner's right big toe and set about "amputating" it. Which in doggie terms, of course, means he ate it. All the while, Kiko's owner, Jerry Douthett of Rockford, Mich., lay passed-out drunk in his bed. (We told you it was bizarre.)

Judge OK with government prying into personal information

By Bob Unruh

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, who became known as Joe the Plumber during the 2008 U.S. Presidential election campaign, attends a press conference announcing a federal civil rights lawsuit filed on his behalf against the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, in Washington on March 5, 2009. The lawsuit alleges that Ohio government officials who supported Barack Obama, illegally accessed confidential information about Wurzelbacher following a conversation between him and Obama. Government officials who rifle through your personal details held in government databases apparently should have little to fear in the way of punishment, according to a federal judge in Ohio.

U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley has dismissed a complaint brought against Ohio state officials who hunted for details about "Joe the Plumber" when the working man confronted then-candidate Barack Obama during his campaign for the presidency in 2008.

The civil rights lawsuit was filed by Judicial Watch on behalf of Joe Wurzelbacher, aka "Joe the Plumber," against state officials who, reportedly in their pursuit of support for Obama, had state databases searched for information about Wurzelbacher.

However, Marbley dismissed the action, ruling there was no real damage to Wurzelbacher when officials searched police, social services and other databases for his details.

"The implications of this court decision are frightening," said Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch. "Essentially the court has said that government officials can feel free to rifle through the private files of citizens without fear of being held accountable in court."    read more

America there is a God!

By Bob Barney   Reprinted from  Nov 5 2008!

America chose death yesterday. Make no mistake about it, the America that you live in has changed and we will pay a price for it. In the Bible, probably the most under read book in the America, God gives us this warning.

Deu 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
God promises us peace, prosperity, happiness and life if we want it, but gives us the choice. God does not impose His will on us, we make the choices, and then we pay for the consequences. We are lucky, because for the most part, God will even "pay" off our debts of the wrong choices we make as well but, that being said, we must stand before our God and explain how this nation chose death and Godlessness over life and God's gift of life.

How have we chosen death you say, well friends put yourself in God's shoes and read these headlines and judge for yourself where America stands today!

  1. Suicide given green light
  2. Colorado voters deny unborn are 'persons'
  3. Obama ridicules the Bible
  4. Obama opposes the ban on partial-birth abortion
  5. Obama's Abortion Bombshell: Unrestricted Abortion
  6. Obama supports the death of child born alive in botched abortion
  7. Compassionate Choices/Right To Die - from Obama.com!

This is just seven of literally hundreds of new directions the nation will embark on and spit in God's face concerning the precious gift of life. Here are some others. The false messiah stands for fetal stem cell research, which by the way has never shown any promise contrary to the myths you have been told, global warming and evolution myths, which policies will result in the deaths of millions worldwide. The teaching of evolution is required to propagandize our youth into communism and fascism.

In Ezekiel God gives us this warning:

Eze 3:17 "Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, pass it on to the people immediately.

Eze 3:18 If I warn the wicked, saying, `You are under the penalty of death,' but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible, demanding your blood for theirs.

Eze 3:19 If you warn them and they keep on sinning and refuse to repent, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved your life because you did what you were told to do. Eze 3:20 If good people turn bad and don't listen to my warning, they will die. If you did not warn them of the consequences, then they will die in their sins. Their previous good deeds won't help them, and I will hold you responsible, demanding your blood for theirs. Eze 3:21 But if you warn them and they repent, they will live, and you will have saved your own life, too."

The message is as clear as anything God has ever told us in His word. One cannot quote the flowery, forgiving words of Jesus on one hand and ignore what he said elsewhere in the same Bible. I take the Bible as fact, all of it, and I also will pass on God's words of warning against His people choosing death over life, wrong instead of right and calling evil good! Isiah 5:20: "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!"

God is not happy with us and the choices that we are making and America will pay the consequences for the choices we make.

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. {2} But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." (Psalm 1:1-2)

"You know that wicked people will not inherit the kingdom of God, don't you? Stop deceiving yourselves! Sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, 10thieves, greedy people, drunks, slanderers, and robbers will not inherit the kingdom of God. 11That is what some of you were! But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Yes, America there is a God and there are consequences to the choices that we make. There is good news out there for those who "cry aloud at the evil they see" and stand up for God! America may suffer and eventually be destroyed just like Rome and Babylon was, but you can choose God and be right with your Savior! Stand up and warn everyone to WAKE UP and "show my people their sins," says God.  Do not meekly follow the crowd to your own doom, but rather, follow God, follow Christ and obey their words and all will be well for you.

As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” [Joshua 24:15]

Maxine, Barney, Fannie, Freddie & TARP Hanky-Panky

Over the weekend, I gave you a refresher course on entrenched California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters’ OneUnited Bank ethics scandal. It’s a textbook case of cronyism of color.

Last night, the House Ethics Committee filed three charges against her related to those shady dealings — specifically, her role in arranging a special meeting between then-Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson (known on this blog as the lying, Naked Emperor) and her pals at the black-owned, deeply indebted OneUnited Bank.

Wheat Soars-a 51 year high! Rogers Sees 'Much Higher' Food Prices

The July rise in wheat prices, the fastest in 51 years, indicates that shortages in agriculture are coming, Jim Rogers, chairman of Rogers Holdings, told CNBC.com Tuesday.

Wheat prices in Europe hit their highest level in two years, rising almost 50 percent since late June as Russia's wheat crop was affected by drought.

"That's the straw that broke the camel's back," Rogers, who has been warning about shortages coming in the agriculture sector for a while, said in a telephone interview.

"We're going to have much, much higher prices over the next few years," Rogers, a hedge-fund pioneer who started the Quantum Fund with George Soros in the 1970s, added.

Investors finally began to realize that prices for agricultural commodities have been too low for too long because of subsidies and other factors, which made agriculture an unattractive area for workers, he explained.  Read The story

Marilyn Monroe's last weekend: Told for the first time, an eyewitness's account

On Sunday, August 5, 1962, the body of Marilyn Monroe was found naked and face-down on her bed at her home on Fifth Helena Drive, at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in Brentwood, California. She was 36 years old.

'The long troubled star clutched a telephone in one hand. An empty bottle of sleeping pills was nearby,' reported the Associated Press that morning.

Long before she was officially discovered dead on the Sunday, neighbours had seen a mysterious - and still unexplained - ambulance parked in front of the film star's residence on the Saturday evening.

Final days: In a never-before-seen photograph, a young Buddy Greco poses with Marilyn Monroe, as Frank Sinatra looks on, at the notorious Mafia haunt, Cal-Neva Lodge

They also reported a helicopter hovering overhead. Raised voices and the sound of breaking glass were also heard that night.

Other neighbours reported that in the early hours a hysterical woman  -  who remains unidentified - had screamed: 'Murderers! You murderers! Are you satisfied now that she's dead?'

For 48 years, Marilyn Monroe's death - and the events that later came to light: reports of a visit that night by her lover Bobby Kennedy; of an ambulance that took her away breathing and brought her back dead - has remained one of Hollywood's most enduring and tantalising mysteries.

I was a reporter in New York at the time and flew to Los Angeles that morning to cover the story. I can still recall the haunting sound of the antique wind chimes - a gift to her from the poet Carl Sandburg - that hung beside her pool, on which floated a child's plastic yellow duck. It was a melancholy sight. I had known her a little and it made me sad.

The Battle of Britain Remembered

As this summer draws to a close, it is important to remember how perilously close the West came to catastrophe exactly 70 years ago.

While I was visiting London in July, a British friend said, “This summer marks the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, but you wouldn’t know it by reading the press.”

In fact, the new Conservative-Liberal-Democratic coalition government led by Prime Minister David Cameron has been more focused on fiscal woes. Britain’s new Defence minister is saying massive cuts in military spending are on the way.  read the story

All your e-mails are ours says Obama Admin

The White House is planning to ease FBI access to your Internet records

Just four words – "electronic communication transactional records" – will allow the FBI access to online info without a judge's approval. Info that includes addresses to which an Internet user sends e-mail; the times and dates e-mail was sent and received; and possibly a user's browser history. Lawyers assure us it doesn't include the "content" of e-mail or other Internet communication.

The Washington Post last week reported that the Obama administration wants to make it easier for the FBI to compel companies to turn over records of an individual's Internet activity without a court order if agents deem the information relevant to a terrorism or intelligence investigation. The e-mails can be issued by an FBI field office on its own authority and require the recipient to provide the requested information and keep the request secret.

Family Farm for Sale After 378 Years

DOVER, N.H. (Aug. 1) -- In 1632, John Tuttle arrived from England to a settlement near the Maine-New Hampshire border, using a small land grant from King Charles I to start a farm.

Eleven generations and 378 years later, his field-weary descendants - arthritic from picking fruits and vegetables and battered by competition from supermarkets and pick-it-yourself farms - are selling their spread, which is among the oldest continuously operated family farms in America.

"We've been here for 40 years, doing what we love to do," said Lucy Tuttle, 65, who runs the 134-acre farm with brother Will. "But we're not able to work to our full capacity any longer, unfortunately."

How to Handle a Bully: Nixon vs. Khrushchev

Nixon

Fifty years ago it was the picture heard around the world.

The young Vice President of the United States standing up to the bullying Russian tyrant, his right index finger literally poking Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev in the chest.

For the rest of his political career, the photograph -- and the incident that prompted it -- would visually enshrine the world's view of Richard Nixon as the American politician who would quite literally never blink when it came to standing up to America's enemies.  Read More..........
