Putting a traditional turkey dinner on the table is going to be pricier this Thanksgiving.
The American Farm Bureau Federation reported Thursday that a meal with turkey and all the trimmings will cost about 13 percent more this year.
The trade group estimates a classic meal for 10 will cost $49.20 on average. That is $5.73 more than last year's $43.47 average.
The meal will cost less than $5 a person, but it's still much more expensive than in years past. The jump results from food makers and grocers raising their prices to cover higher commodity costs.
Nearly everything from cranberries to pumpkin pie is pricier this year, but the biggest hike is for the main course: A 16-pound turkey costs almost $4 more this year, at $21.57, according to the trade group.
The group surveyed prices in stores nationwide. But grocers often discount key items as the holiday approaches and that could reduce the cost of Thanksgiving dinner.
In 1933 Winston Churchill chillingly warned, "No one can watch the events which are taking place in Germany without increasing anxiety about what their outcome will be." With an economic crisis now plaguing the eurozone, will Berlin's troubled history repeat itself? What is Germany's destiny? Does Bible prophecy give us any indication of where events in Europe are leading?

The late British author John Stott summed up the mindset of many this way: "Most of us feel demoralized by the heart-rending tragedy of this chaotic world. Our very survival is in doubt. The ordinary citizen often feels a helpless victim of the tangled web of politics, or a faceless unit in the machine of modern society" (Basic Christianity, 2008, p. 152).
The apostle Paul foretold that conditions would be like this during the last days of this age of man (2 Timothy:3:1-5This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.). That's why our articles about regional and world trends ultimately focus on the good news guaranteed by the prophecies of the Bible.
But the Bible itself makes it very plain that the wonderful world to come will first be preceded by devastating conditions of a magnitude never before seen by the human race (see Matthew:24:21-22For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.; Daniel:12:1And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.; Jeremiah:30:7Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.). The state of the world will be so dire that human survival will be at stake!
Our news headlines show that prophecies written in the Bible many centuries ago are now beginning to be fulfilled in a major way. Nowhere is this truer than in Central Europe and the Middle East. This article focuses on Europe (though you can gain an understanding of the other region's prophetic role by reading our free booklet The Middle East in Bible Prophecy and articles about Israel and the Middle East that appear regularly in this magazine).
What does Bible prophecy tell us about the future of Europe? The biblical books of Daniel and Revelation both show that a new and dictatorial superpower will emerge at the time of the end, centered in Europe. In this article we'll see how the stage is apparently being set for the fulfillment of these prophecies.
Filmmaker Frank Capra was a masterful storyteller, able to weave a story and tug at the heartstrings effortlessly. It's no wonder, then, that the U.S. Armed Forces turned to him when it wanted to make propaganda movies during wartime. This collection gathers Capra's artfully crafted Why We Fight series, which tells the story of combat from a decidedly American viewpoint -- from the catalyst of battles to the hard-won victories.

The city council of Austin, Texas, unanimously approved exploring the idea of deputizing citizens to be "meter maids" using an iPhone app allowing anyone with an Android, Blackberry or iPhone to download a "parking ticket app," according to Legal Blogwatch.
The concept is this: "If they see a vehicle that is parked in a handicapped parking spot, the 'deputy' would then take three photographs (of the license plate, the windshield and the car in the handicapped parking [space]). The software from Parking Mobility then transmits the photos and the GPS location to the city so it can issue a ticket."

The self-styled National Socialist Underground (NSU) group claims to have directly killed nine foreign shopkeepers and a policewoman over a number of years and injured many more with a nail bomb.
Details of how they managed to hide from the authorities for more than a decade, while carrying out some of the country’s most notorious killings will no doubt emerge as the investigation continues.
But the questions are now being posed of whether German society and its authorities so focused on the threat of Islamist terrorism, that neo-Nazis were ignored, dismissed as provincial loonies, a spectre of yesteryear. Was the country looking in the wrong direction?
Would a ban on the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party (NPD) help or hinder attempts to fight far-right violence? Would banning the party drive fascists underground, or would it send a signal that nothing of this stripe is tolerated in Germany, making it simpler for authorities to crack down on them?
Could Germany be facing a wave of neo-Nazi terrorism – and if so, are its intelligence and police authorities up to the job of fighting it?
Germany has been shocked by a series of revelations relating to a trio of neo-Nazis who appear to have carried out a crime wave lasting for over a decade. They are suspected of murdering nine immigrants and a policewoman as well as a series of bank robberies. The evidence points to a new kind of right-wing terrorism unlike anything Germany has seen. 36 "The king of the North (This is a Hitler-like leader, probably from Germany, which are the descendants of ancient Assyrians, and rule the revival of the Holy Roman Empire, the beast of Revelation) will do whatever he wants. He will brag about himself and praise himself and think he is even better than a god. He will say things against the God of gods that no one has ever heard. And he will be successful until all the bad things have happened. Then what God has planned to happen will happen.37 The king of the North will not care about the gods his ancestors worshiped or the god that women worship. He won't care about any god. Instead, he will make himself more important than any god.38 The king of the North will worship power and strength, which his ancestors did not worship. He will honor the god of power with gold and silver, expensive jewels and gifts.39 That king will attack strong, walled cities with the help of a foreign god. He will give much honor to the people who join him, making them rulers in charge of many other people. And he will make them pay him for the land they rule.
40 "At the time of the end, the king of the South (this is the leader of a United States of the Muslim Nations, composing of all north Africa through Pakistan.) will fight a battle against the king of the North. The king of the North will attack with chariots, soldiers on horses, and many large ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through their lands like a flood.41 The king of the North will attack the beautiful land of Judah (the real name for the nation called "Israel" today). He will defeat many countries, but Edom, Moab, and the leaders of Ammon will be saved from him.42 The king of the North will show his power in many countries; Egypt will not escape.43 The king will get treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt. The Libyan and Nubian people will obey him.44 But the king of the North will hear news from the east and the north (Russia) that will make him afraid and angry. He will go to destroy completely many nations.45 He will set up his royal tents between the sea and the beautiful mountain where the holy Temple (Jerusalem) is built. But, finally, his end will come, and no one will help him. New Century Version.
Italian borrowing costs reached breaking point on Wednesday after Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's insistence on elections instead of an interim government opened the way to prolonged instability and delays to economic reform.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel
Italian 10-year bond yields shot above the 7 percent level that is widely deemed unsustainable, reflecting investors' concerns that they may not get their money back and prompting German Chancellor Angela Merkel to issue a call to arms.
Merkel said Europe's plight was now so "unpleasant'' that deep structural reforms were needed quickly, warning the rest of the world would not wait.
"That will mean more Europe, not less Europe,'' she told a conference in Berlin.
She called for changes in EU treaties after French President Nicolas Sarkozy advocated a two-speed Europe in which euro zone countries accelerate and deepen integration while an expanding group outside the currency bloc stayed more loosely connected — a signal that some members may have to quit the euro if the entire structure is not to crumble.
Merkel Calls for 'Breakthrough to a New Europe'
"It is time for a breakthrough to a new Europe,'' Merkel said. "A community that says, regardless of what happens in the rest of the world, that it can never again change its ground rules, that community simply can't survive.''
A senior EU official said changing the make-up of the euro zone has been discussed on an "intellectual" level but had not moved to operational or technical discussions, while a French government source said there was no such project in the works.

Such steps are also opposed by many EU countries, whose backing would be needed for any adjustments to the bloc's treaties, making them anything but a done deal.
"This will unravel everything our forebears have painstakingly built up and repudiate all that they stood for in the past sixty years," one EU diplomat told Reuters. "This is not about a two-speed Europe, we already have that. This will redraw the map geopolitically and give rise to new tensions. It could truly be the end of Europe as we know it."
Nonetheless, the Franco-German motor has generally been the driving force in steps forward for European integration.
Germany's Interior Minister warned on Sunday of a "new form of far-right terrorism" as details emerged of a grotesque film left by members of a neo-Nazi cell in eastern Germany, in which they claimed the murder of nine immigrants between 2000 and 2006.
Prosecutors said on Sunday that police had arrested a suspected accomplice of the group, which referred to itself in the film as the "Nationalist Socialist Underground," and which is also thought to be behind the murder of a policewoman in 2007 and a bomb attack on a Turkish area of Cologne in 2004. Why would Iran authorize a major terrorist operation on American soil? Skeptics say the much-discussed “foiled” Iranian plot makes no sense. We will know soon enough if the Feds have sufficient evidence related to this specific plot. But Iranian leaders may, in fact, have a motive to accelerate direct attacks on the U.S.: Shia Islamic eschatology, or "End Times" theology.
Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are convinced that the End of Days has come. They believe the Shia messiah known as the “Twelfth Imam” or the “Mahdi” will appear soon to establish a global Islamic kingdom known as the caliphate.
The Vatican confirmed their conspiratorial role in the marxist-socialist totalitarian takeover of the sovereign Nations of the world this week by issuing a statement calling for marxist "social justice" and a one world government administered by the scam known as the United Nations over all the economies of the world.
There is no doubt that these new world order overlords are conspiring right now to enslave every man, woman and child on the planet in their hellish control grid. From NewsMax:
Can the existence of God be scientifically proved? Where did the first LIFE come from? Can we know whether God possesses MIND power?
LET'S FACE this question! Is it rational to believe in God? Is God merely a myth - an invention of an ignorant, superstitious past? Many, today assume this.
I Questioned God's Existence
With me - and I hope with the reader - I wanted to KNOW! I wanted to be SURE! I questioned the existence of God! Also I questioned the opposing doctrine of evolution. I did not seek to DISprove either. But I did research and carefully examine the evidences on both sides of this two-sided question. For this question is the very starting place for the acquisition of all knowledge. It is the FOUNDATION for UNDERSTANDING!
In my in-depth research into this question, starting 46 years ago, I emptied my mind of prejudice. I sought the TRUTH, whether it was what I wanted to believe or not.
There are the two possibilities of origins - special creation by a Creator, God, and the theory of evolution. It has become intellectually fashionable to accept the evolutionary doctrine. It has won popular acceptance in science and higher education. Even many professing Christian denominations have accepted it, if only passively.
CATAWBA, N.C. — Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield, barred from the association since 2009 for a failed drug test, was arrested at his western North Carolina home and charged with possession of methamphetamine, and police said Wednesday he might face more charges.
Mayfield was arrested Tuesday night and charged possessing 1.5 grams of meth, according to records from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office. The 42-year-old Mayfield posted $3,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in district court Wednesday. A call to the clerk's office in Newton was not immediately returned Wednesday.
Detectives from neighboring Lincoln County said roughly $100,000 worth of items that belonged to businesses in that county also were found at Mayfield's home, and they plan to charge him with possession of stolen goods.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says Mayfield had heavy equipment parts, welders and welding accessories, truck parts, an engraving machine and other items that they say were reported stolen from two businesses in late 2010 and early 2011.
An attorney for Mayfield said his client denies all the charges, and the search was executed based on "baseless allegations by an unreliable source."
"Mr. Mayfield has no knowledge of either stolen property or methamphetamine being present on his property and denies the accusation that he was in possession of methamphetamine or any other illegal drug and he denies any suggestion that he knowingly received or possessed stolen property," said Daniel Marino, a Washington, D.C.-based attorney.
"Mr. Mayfield and his attorneys are cooperating with the authorities and they look forward to this matter being resolved quickly. In the meantime, Mr. Mayfield asks that the public reserve its judgment on this matter."
Police officers and their radar guns can only catch one speeder at a time. Speed cameras are in the same boat, though they can photograph more than an officer handing out tickets. But both of these methods may soon step aside for a new device is that can track more than 30 cars at the same time.
Cordon, a program developed by Peak Gain Systems, can monitor the speed and license plates of traffic that’s coming and going spanning across four lanes. And, according to Gizmodo, it can see this information for up to 32 cars at the same time.

An organization that monitors the U.S. government's influence on education, and specifically on parents who choose to school their own children, is warning of a pending move in Washington that would result in "de facto national education standards."
The measure could not only require parents who homeschool their children to teach certain government agenda issues but also effectively remove much of the decision-making authority of local school boards and districts, warns the Home School Legal Defense Association.
The organization focuses on issues affecting homeschool students and their parents in the United States and overseas but also keeps an eye on the larger picture of education policy.
The concern is about Democrat-driven plans in the U.S. Senate to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, a massive federal program last reauthorized in 2001 as the No Child Left Behind Act.
"HSLDA's federal relations staff have read this 868-page bill, and we believe that while it does not directly impact homeschool freedom, the bill will 1) increase the federal role in education at the expense of state, local and parental control, and 2) will greatly increase the pressure on states to align their curriculum and standards, resulting in de facto national education standards," said the report compiled by Melanie P. Palazzo, the organization's congressional action program director, and William A. Estrada of the organization's federal relations office.
A number of years ago, I was on Larry King Live and was asked point blank if I had a problem with the appointments of Justices Roberts and Alito (both are Roman Catholics). My answer was very clear that I did not, as long as they shared my own conviction of upholding the Constitution -- not trying to rewrite it -- and as long as they were committed to the biblical values of the Founding Fathers. I was certain that both men were.
Many people today are quoting a statement reputedly made by Martin Luther, the great reformer, that he "would rather be ruled by a competent Turk (a Muslim) than an incompetent Christian." First of all, there is no evidence whatsoever that Martin Luther ever said these words. But even if he did say them, it would have been a gross exaggeration used to make a point. He never lived under a Muslim ruler and did not know what that would be like. But I did. And I can tell you, there is no such thing as choosing between Muslim and non-Muslim leaders under Islam.
