Israel’s chief rabbi had an exciting culinary announcement to make, certain to widen the gastronomical options for those adhering to a kosher diet.

Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger last week announced that innovative Spanish farmers have discovered a unique goose species which tastes exactly like pork, and will soon be imported to Israel.

Israeli journalists could barely contain their excitement when reporting on the news:

Ynet said it’s “tantalizing the taste buds of every kashrut observer in Israel.”

A Jerusalem Post reporter wrote:

If the dream of tasting pork – that most forbidden of forbidden foods – has always been yours, then dream no longer. And if you thought the idea of a rabbinically approved slice of swine was less likely than a flying pig, then think again.

According to dietary laws detailed in Leviticus to which religious Jews adhere, certain meats are not permissible for eating. Mammals considered kosher have to both chew their cud (ruminate) and have cloven hooves. Swine is specifically mentioned in Leviticus 11:7 as “unclean” since it does not chew its cud. Rabbi Metzger says goose is kosher.

They [the Spanish farmers] decided to share the sensational discovery with the chosen people, and sent a halachic [Jewish legal] query to Chief Rabbi Metzger. The latter demanded a second opinion, and asked that the goose liver be sent to three non-Jewish professional chefs in Europe, who are very familiar with the taste of Pork. The three chefs confirmed the discovery of a “rare culinary duplicate”.

Traditional Turkey Dinner Costs 13 Percent More

Putting a traditional turkey dinner on the table is going to be pricier this Thanksgiving.

The American Farm Bureau Federation reported Thursday that a meal with turkey and all the trimmings will cost about 13 percent more this year.

The trade group estimates a classic meal for 10 will cost $49.20 on average. That is $5.73 more than last year's $43.47 average.

The meal will cost less than $5 a person, but it's still much more expensive than in years past. The jump results from food makers and grocers raising their prices to cover higher commodity costs.

Nearly everything from cranberries to pumpkin pie is pricier this year, but the biggest hike is for the main course: A 16-pound turkey costs almost $4 more this year, at $21.57, according to the trade group.

The group surveyed prices in stores nationwide. But grocers often discount key items as the holiday approaches and that could reduce the cost of Thanksgiving dinner.

The late British author John Stott summed up the mindset of many this way: "Most of us feel demoralized by the heart-rending tragedy of this chaotic world. Our very survival is in doubt. The ordinary citizen often feels a helpless victim of the tangled web of politics, or a faceless unit in the machine of modern society" (Basic Christianity, 2008, p. 152).

There’s a rock n roll song written by Bob Dylan titled “the mighty Quinn.” I’m not sure if there are supposed to be any hidden religious meanings behind the words to this song, but there is a line, “But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here, all the pigeons are going to run to him.” Now, some make the claim that it’s nothing more than a drug song and the pigeons are the users-the junkies. It might be the case. However, the line has always meant something far different to me, and probably to me alone. Here goes my little story of liberals, do-gooders, religious phonies, the greedy and God Almighty Himself. I will use verses from the song several times and I hope you see the point of this little fairy tale of Quinn the Eskimo. You may never hear this song in the same way again.

The city council of Austin, Texas, unanimously approved exploring the idea of deputizing citizens to be "meter maids" using an iPhone app allowing anyone with an Android, Blackberry or iPhone to download a "parking ticket app," according to Legal Blogwatch.

The concept is this: "If they see a vehicle that is parked in a handicapped parking spot, the 'deputy' would then take three photographs (of the license plate, the windshield and the car in the handicapped parking [space]). The software from Parking Mobility then transmits the photos and the GPS location to the city so it can issue a ticket."

The self-styled National Socialist Underground (NSU) group claims to have directly killed nine foreign shopkeepers and a policewoman over a number of years and injured many more with a nail bomb.

But the questions are now being posed of whether German society and its authorities so focused on the threat of Islamist terrorism, that neo-Nazis were ignored, dismissed as provincial loonies, a spectre of yesteryear. Was the country looking in the wrong direction?

Would a ban on the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party (NPD) help or hinder attempts to fight far-right violence? Would banning the party drive fascists underground, or would it send a signal that nothing of this stripe is tolerated in Germany, making it simpler for authorities to crack down on them?

Could Germany be facing a wave of neo-Nazi terrorism – and if so, are its intelligence and police authorities up to the job of fighting it?

Merkel said Europe's plight was now so "unpleasant'' that deep structural reforms were needed quickly, warning the rest of the world would not wait.

"That will mean more Europe, not less Europe,'' she told a conference in Berlin.

She called for changes in EU treaties after French President Nicolas Sarkozy advocated a two-speed Europe in which euro zone countries accelerate and deepen integration while an expanding group outside the currency bloc stayed more loosely connected — a signal that some members may have to quit the euro if the entire structure is not to crumble.

Merkel Calls for 'Breakthrough to a New Europe'

"It is time for a breakthrough to a new Europe,'' Merkel said. "A community that says, regardless of what happens in the rest of the world, that it can never again change its ground rules, that community simply can't survive.''

A senior EU official said changing the make-up of the euro zone has been discussed on an "intellectual" level but had not moved to operational or technical discussions, while a French government source said there was no such project in the works.

Such steps are also opposed by many EU countries, whose backing would be needed for any adjustments to the bloc's treaties, making them anything but a done deal.

"This will unravel everything our forebears have painstakingly built up and repudiate all that they stood for in the past sixty years," one EU diplomat told Reuters. Germany's Interior Minister warned on Sunday of a "new form of far-right terrorism" as details emerged of a grotesque film left by members of a neo-Nazi cell in eastern Germany, in which they claimed the murder of nine immigrants between 2000 and 2006.

I Questioned God's Existence

With me - and I hope with the reader - I wanted to KNOW! I wanted to be SURE! I questioned the existence of God! Also I questioned the opposing doctrine of evolution. I did not seek to DISprove either. But I did research and carefully examine the evidences on both sides of this two-sided question. For this question is the very starting place for the acquisition of all knowledge. It is the FOUNDATION for UNDERSTANDING!

In my in-depth research into this question, starting 46 years ago, I emptied my mind of prejudice. I sought the TRUTH, whether it was what I wanted to believe or not.

There are the two possibilities of origins - special creation by a Creator, God, and the theory of evolution. It has become intellectually fashionable to accept the evolutionary doctrine. It has won popular acceptance in science and higher education. Even many professing Christian denominations have accepted it, if only passively.

Jeremy Mayfield Arrested: Ex-NASCAR Driver Busted For Meth Possession

CATAWBA, N.C. — Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield, barred from the association since 2009 for a failed drug test, was arrested at his western North Carolina home and charged with possession of methamphetamine, and police said Wednesday he might face more charges.

Mayfield was arrested Tuesday night and charged possessing 1.5 grams of meth, according to records from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office. The 42-year-old Mayfield posted $3,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in district court Wednesday. A call to the clerk's office in Newton was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Detectives from neighboring Lincoln County said roughly $100,000 worth of items that belonged to businesses in that county also were found at Mayfield's home, and they plan to charge him with possession of stolen goods.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says Mayfield had heavy equipment parts, welders and welding accessories, truck parts, an engraving machine and other items that they say were reported stolen from two businesses in late 2010 and early 2011.

An attorney for Mayfield said his client denies all the charges, and the search was executed based on "baseless allegations by an unreliable source."

"Mr. Mayfield has no knowledge of either stolen property or methamphetamine being present on his property and denies the accusation that he was in possession of methamphetamine or any other illegal drug and he denies any suggestion that he knowingly received or possessed stolen property," said Daniel Marino, a Washington, D.C.-based attorney.

"Mr. Mayfield and his attorneys are cooperating with the authorities and they look forward to this matter being resolved quickly. In the meantime, Mr. Mayfield asks that the public reserve its judgment on this matter."

New Police Device Can Track 30 Potential Speeders At a Time

Police officers and their radar guns can only catch one speeder at a time. Speed cameras are in the same boat, though they can photograph more than an officer handing out tickets. But both of these methods may soon step aside for a new device is that can track more than 30 cars at  the same time.

Cordon, a program developed by Peak Gain Systems, can monitor the speed and license plates of traffic that’s coming and going spanning across four lanes. And, according to Gizmodo, it can see this information for up to 32 cars at the same time.
